Abeja Winery added to our wine store

Located just 4 miles east of Walla Walla, Abeja Winery is housed in what was once the mule and horse barn of the Kibler Farm. It is set up with state-of-the-art equipment and a small team who is passionately dedicated to quality.

Abeja 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon

Abeja 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon - Crafting a Cabernet with dark dense color, richness and complexity, and a bright fruitful nose is one thing. Combining that with elegance, finesse, and superb balance is quite another. The 2005 growing season gave us every opportunity to accomplish both, and this Cabernet is a beautiful illustration of an exceptional vintage. It is absolutely complete, abundant, and balanced. A number of elements came together in this vintage to make it one of the best we've seen in some time. The stage was set for the 2005 growing season the autumn prior with a period of extended mild temperatures. Winter offered conditions for complete dormancy, but with no damaging temperature extremes. The growing season that followed was filled with long, warm days and cool nights. This unfolded into a really nice, warm September, right on through harvest. Finally, the typical end-of-October frost held off until the middle of November. Our own Heather Hill Vineyard fruit is blended with fruit from Bacchus, Dionysus, Wallula, Weinbau and a touch of Hedges Red Mountain. This wine has pretty aromas of ripe cherry, black briar berry, and a hint of fresh fig. Its sleek structure frames a layer of sweet cassis, mountain strawberry, and shaved chocolate. Wood spice and lustrous tannins are in perfect balance and lead to a magnificent finish. Alcohol 14.5% by Volume.

Abeja 2006 Chardonnay

Abeja 2006 Chardonnay - With this vintage of Chardonnay, we welcome the return of fruit from Celilo Vineyard to the blend. It is an important vineyard to us for its classic bright acidity and bartlett pear fruit character, which blends so nicely with our other fruit sources. Stylistically, we aim to produce a Chardonnay with richness and complexity, a pretty elegance, bright acidity for balance, and lovely yet restrained wood characters. The fruit was hand-picked, then delicately whole-cluster pressed. After settling, the juice was put down to barrel in 100% tightgrained French oak and inoculated with one of three strains of yeast. After fermentation, each barrel was lees-stirred weekly through the end of December. Secondary fermentation with neutral strains of malolactic bacteria gives a richness on the palate while maintaining the pretty, delicate aromas on the nose. The color is a beautiful light straw. This wine is loaded with bright, tree-ripened peach, nectarine, and lemon meringue. Candied peach and vanilla define a richness that is in perfect balance. The finish is really amazing; it just keeps unfolding like that scarf trick that magicians do...Alcohol 13.8% by Volume.

Buy

2004 Cabernet Sauvignon - Smooth, luscious, complicated layers of violets, caramel, and chocolate-covered cherries. Call all your friends! A classic Washington Cabernet. A fruit bomb from legendary vineyards. The finish of premium French, Hungarian, and Minnesota oak barrels with a bonus of an 1800 gallon French oak tank. (Think long clear sunset seen from the summit of Mount Rainier.) Fruit low-cropped for intensity. Balanced. This wine spent 24 months in barrel and three extra months in the oak blending tank. Bottled in heavy French glass. Corked with the highest grade Lafitte cork. About cork---it grows as bark on oak trees, a completely sustainable resource which creates very diverse yet quietly stable ecosystems. Every bottle is hand-dipped in wax---mostly by me. Bottles are labeled one at the time on our little labeler right next to the tasting bar.
